Westdale Students Care

Did you know that there are students all over the world who have never seen a book? There are so many books that are important to us, we can't imagine a life without them. Together, we plan to raise $2000 to build a library in an area where children have no books to enjoy. Please use this page to learn more about our big fundraiser, "Wake Up With Westdale and Read for the World." On April 21st, we will read for two hours. While we enjoy reading so many wonderful books, we will feel good knowing that we are making a difference and bringing books to 300 children.

Be a Reader

Interested in being a part of this amazing day? Ask your teacher for a Participator Packet. Then, collect donation money from family and friends. Once you have collected a minimum of $10, you are ready! Come to Westdale on Saturday, April 21st and settle in for a great two hours of reading!

Support Us

World change starts with educated children. It's the motto of Room to Read, the nonprofit organization that builds libraries, reading rooms, and schools in the most illiterate nations in the world. We are teaming up with this important organization because we can understand how important reading is to our lives.

If you are interested in supporting our fundraiser, please make donation checks payable to Westdale School. Checks can be sent to: 99 W Diversey, Northlake, IL, 60164.

Event Details

What: Wake Up With Westdale and Read for the World
            A 2-hour Read-A-Thon Fundraising Event
Where: Westdale School
When: SATURDAY, April 21st, 10:00A.M. to Noon
Who: Westdale students, faculty, and community members.

Westdale students will get comfortable in our gymnasium and read for two hours without stopping. There will be several different "break-out" stations to keep our readers engaged and on task. For example, readers might choose to learn how to read a book while signing the words in sign language, or students may choose to read by "performing" a reader's theater play. With so many fun choices, the two hours will go by in a snap!

Participating students will also be entered into a raffle. Prizes include an iPod, Chicago Cubs tickets, and movie passes for the whole family.
